In March 2012, Tamarack Homes came to us with an “impossible task” of designing a custom home for a Parade of Homes site in less than a week. They wanted a 3,800 square foot single level Neo-Prairie style home. We sought to create a fusion of both rustic natural woods and stone, with clean interior spaces.
It was a great opportunity to resolve challenging aspects of the site, and capture the saddled view of Mt Hood, and the Columbia River. The Odyssey was so named because of rectangular stone columns accentuating indoor to outdoor transitions and an architectural echo that framed the main living areas. The stone columns were reminiscent of the Monolith in the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” leading to its name.
While we don’t like a hurried schedule like this, it was a great project and a lot of fun to work with capable builders who built the home in less than 50 days.
